Started out the day with giving a talk at IROS and discussing cloud robotics as part of a panel. Meanwhile Jacob caught up with friends in town for the conference. After my talk we took the bullet train to Himeji to see Himeji Castle. On the way we played another round of cribbage that I lost again, the score is now 0-4, I really need to get a win. As we entered the castle a little old lady offered to give us a free English tour around the castle and into the top floors of the castle. We had a lot of fun learning about the history and design of the castle.
After the tour we hustled back to Kyoto to have dinner and meet Derek for drinks. We started by grabbing sushi at Sushi Taka.
After dinner we headed to a super cool speakeasy style bar, L’EscaMonteur, where we met the owner, Christophe, and enjoyed several cocktails. The cocktail menu centered around magic and many of the cocktails had a special flare.
We then headed out to meet Derek for drinks before he headed back to the United States. We ended up at the Rocking Chair Bar, a traditional Japanese business drinking bar. Unfortunately we weren’t really allowed to take pictures.
