DAY 13

We spent the morning at the Hakone Open Air museum. A very large outdoor park filled with art and some interactive pieces. The art ranged from classical art to two plastic sunny side up eggs sitting in a shady spot. There was also a Picasso exhibit hall that really made me question whether Picasso was just trolling art experts, many of the pieces would be hard to distinguish from that of a first grader.

We grabbed a quick lunch then took about 2 hours of trains to Kamakura, a town outside of Tokyo known for the Great Buddha and numerous shrines and temples throughout the town. After we dropped off our bags at the hotel, we headed to the shopping street near our hotel and visited an owl cafe where they had many more owls than we expected.

We then went to see Kōtoku-in (the Great Buddha) at sunset, was hoping for a more stunning colors but still nice. The we wandered over to Bar Kelpie and had a drink before grabbing the train back towards central Kamakura.

Once back to central Kamakura, Jacob made a b-line for the Giraffa cheesy curry nugget stand. The different faces of Jacob enjoying his cheesy curry nugget.

After more snacking and checking out the Hongu Shrine at night. We then met up with our friends and wandered around trying to find dinner, which can be hard to do when the shops only hold 7 people and you are a group of 5. As we wandered we found a Colonel Sanders dressed up as a Samurai as well… odd… We finally landed in a Spanish tapas place, it was delicious 😋.
