DAY 133

Today we got up at 6:30 to hike the Granite Valley to see the Fitz Roy mountain near El Chalten. It was a short ride to the trail head and we started walking as the sun was rising.

The weather at the beginning of the hike was clear and cool. As we hiked on it started to rain but it wasn’t a heavy downpour. As we hiked further up the trail the rain eventually turned to snow and we were relieved not to have to hike in the rain.

We got to the too quickly and stopped for a snack. While we were snacking several hawks came by to visit.

After another couple miles of hiking we stopped for lunch near a nice lake view point and had another visit with some birds.

We finished lunch and made our way down to El Chalten, the nearest city, to get picked up and taken back to Explora camp.

This hike was supposed to be a full day hike but we finished the hike at noon. So we got back to the camp, relaxed a bit and then decided to go on a short hike near the camp. The hike had lots of great looks outs, was a relatively easy 5 mile hike and Jacob had lots of opportunities to take pics of fungi.

After all the hiking, we got cleaned up the sat at the bar and played cribbage until dinner. Dinner was delicious and after we had a nightcap before heading to bed early in preparation for our hike the next day.
