Today we hike to the base of the towers, a 14-ish mile 3,500ft elevation gain hike.
We got up very early for the hike since it was a 1.5 hour drive to the trail head. We enjoyed watching the sunrise and getting to know our guides and hiking mates.
Once we arrived at the trail head we got geared up and ready to hike. It was turning out to be a beautiful day and we were definitely over dressed. So we ended up stripping off several layers.
About half way up we started to encounter strong winds and struggled at points.
We ended up heading down into a valley before making the climb to the top. The valley was nice and sheltered by trees.
We came thru the forest and made the long slog up the boulders to the summit. When we got the to the summit there were strong winds and we put all our layers back on. After having lunch at the summit, we tools some time to take pictures and then started making our way back.
On the way down we had some fun running down the trail when possible, well at least for me. Jacob and the guide barreled down the trail even when I was sure I was going to twist an ankle, so I get left in the dust to hike down with another one of the hikers, Wilson.
After the hike went back to the hotel soaked in the hot tub and relaxed after the long hike.
