Today we decided to do another challenging hike to the French Valley. This hike was challenging mainly because we were time bound by the ferry that is required to get to the trail head.
So we got up extra early for the hour drive to the ferry. The took the 45 min ferry ride to the trail head.
After a brief stop at the welcome center for a potty break, we were on our way. The hike was “Patagonian Flat” (rolling hills) for most of the hike until the last 3/4 of a mile to the summit with about 1200ft of elevation gain.
The way up was a grind and one of the people in a group turned back to wait at the valley camp before the summit. Jacob and I pressed forward and made it to the summit either the remaining group members.
At the summit was had lunch and then made our way back down. We had a bit of a time crunch and booked it back to the ferry arriving just in time to catch the first ferry back and avoid the 1.5 hour wait for the next/last ferry.
Once we got back to the camp we escorted to a room upgrade.. not sure why but can’t complain. It was a two yurt suite with sitting room and slightly better view. We then went to dinner and stayed up chatting late into the night with some other guests over cocktails.
