DAY 22

Today we are off to see some of the sites outside of Bangkok. We arranged a private tour to take us to some places that are 1 to 2 hours outside of Bangkok. The first stop is the Rom Hup rail way market, the market is literally setup on the tracks of the railway, when the train comes everyone needs to move their stuff out of the way. We wondered a bit thru the market and checked out the fresh produce, fish, and sundries. Then we stopped for an ice cold coconut which was very refreshing given that it was already 90 degrees out.

Then we piled back into our luxury air conditioned van with our tour guide Gott and made our way to the floating market. Located in Damnoen Saduak, there are two floating markets an older traditional one near a temple and school and a second newer one where most of the people are cooking food to eat. We took a tour of both areas and stopped for boat noodles (made on a near by boat) and bought some more baby pineapple to snack on as we toured along the canals.

We then disembarked our boat and went back to our van for the long drive to Ayutthaya, a world heritage site about 2 hours outside Bangkok. It’s a large temple and city complex however much of the complex has been pillaged and defaced over the years by thrives and war.

After touring the complex for about 1.5 hours we made the king drive back to Bangkok, Jacob and I may have taken a nap on the way back. Once back in Bangkok, we took yet another shower and tried to figure out our plans for the evening. We decided to of course explore more speakeasies and try to grab food as we hopped from speakeasy to speakeasy. First stop on our list was Find the Locker Room, we found it down an alley to a bank of lockers that were the facade for the door. There was had bao buns and several delicious drinks. Jacob got a drink with ant larva and a cricket on top. 🤢

After Find the Locker Room, we moseyed on to Black Amber Social Club. It was a small bar with a good vibe, great music, and excellent cocktails.

Next we moved on to Rabbit Hole, a nice bar with okay cocktails. We had one cocktail and moved on.

After the Rabbit Hole, we walked across the street to a somewhat hidden bar, J. Boroski. This bar doesn’t have a cocktail menu, they just ask you want kind of flavors and sweetness you like and make you a drink they think you may like. The drinks were pretty good and we spent the rest of the night chatting up the bar tender.
