Today we slept in and then got ready for our Cambodia cooking class. Jacob was interested in learning how to cook the local cuisine and so we found ourselves at a local’s home learning to cook. We learned about the local herbs and how they grew mushrooms. They take saw dust with mushroom spores and wrap it in plastic and then water heavily and mushrooms sprout.
Then we picked out some recipes we wanted to learn to cook. I chose pineapple friend rice, beef salad, fried chicken with cashew, and sweet potato with palm sugar. Jacob chose tong yam, green mango salad with smoked fish, vegetable curry, and banana in coconut milk Then we got to cooking!
Of course the best part was eating everything. Afterwards we took a tour of the local market where the food was sourced, let’s just say I’m glad we didn’t go before we ate, refrigeration is not readily available and the fish and most meats were covered in flies. The local solution was to just put fly paper on half the fish 🤢.
After the tour we went back to our hotel and then wandered around some of the local markets. Before heading to the Cambodian circus, which was in the style of Cirque de Soleil.
Afterwards we grabbed dinner and had some drinks at Pub Street.
