Today we woke up to pouring rain and urgency. The river rose several feet in the night and had a strong current. So the canoes were rafted together to make them more stable to help them from sending us over board. The route to canoes was steep and we had to make a large human chain to get the stuff to the canoes.
Once the gear was in the canoes, we headed down river and made a 4-5 hour trip in about 1.5 hours due to the current. At the landing dock we had a lot of work to do unloading the canoes and loading the trailers and vans.
Then we got on a bus and headed back to Ohakune to get changed and dried off before our 2 hour drive to Palmerston.
Our stop in Palmerston was mainly to break up the drive to Wellington and recover from the canoe trip. Once at our hotel we got dinner and called it an early night.
Looks wet and woolly!
