Today we’re doing a biking wine tour of the Gibbston Valley wineries. Our hotel was right next to the bike shop, so we got up, grabbed a bite and walked to the bike shop. they provided us with a nice map showing the bike route and all the wineries along the way.
After a short drive out to the trail head, we got a short briefing and then got geared up, adjusted our bikes, and ready to go.
The bike ride out to the first winery was very scenic and we crossed several bridges on the way. Jacob also threw together an impromptu play list that we listen to together as we biked along.
Our first stop was Chard Farm, it was shell of way out to Chard Farm with lots of hills and we were very glad we had e-bikes. It was a nice winery with a large tasting of 8 wines with heavy pours and they only ask for a donation to a local charity for the tasting.
Next stop on our bike tour was Gibston Valley Winery. It had a nice patio area to relax and enjoy our tasting.
After Gibston Valley, we stopped by the Gibston Tavern for lunch. It had a nice outdoor space with picnic tables and lots of dogs running around. Then we headed out to the next and last winery Mt. Rosa, we got there just in time and missed getting soaked in the rain. We would have gone to another winery but there was so much rain we decided to hang out there and get some cheese and drink another glass of wine after the tasting.
As the bike pick up showed up, the rain broke and we were able to load the bikes without getting wet.
Once back in Queenstown, we walked to the local grocery store and got stuff for Christmas dinner tomorrow. They take their holidays seriously in New Zealand and nothing was going to be open on Christmas day.
