Today we start our 3 day, 26 mile hike along the Abel Tasman Costal Track. We woke up at a reasonable time and headed to the tour operator headquarters to get things sorted. We got our daypacks and our overnight packs ready. Then followed the bus to a place to park our rental car for the next 3 days. We then boarded the bus to the boat that will take us to the trail head in Abel Tasman park. The boat ride was a 2 hour tour of the coast to the let off at the trailhead.
Once off the boat, we got started on our way to the first lodge for the night. The first day is a short hike because of the late start and we had to hurry to beat the tide before it covered part of the trail.
As we got close to the lodge, it was high tide and we needed to wait for a boat to transfer us to the beach near the lodge and then walk the rest of the way to the lodge.
After getting to the lodge we had a shower and sat down for drinks and watched the sunset over the bay at low tide.
After dinner we stayed up a bit to chat with other hiker then retired to bed early for our 8am start tomorrow.
